Application of MOORA to Optimize WEDM Process Parameters: A Multi-criteria Decision Making Approach
Abstract Wire electrical discharge machining (WEDM) is a versatile, most useful non-conventional machining process used to machine conductive materials with high precision for cutting intricate shapes, complex profiles etc. This paper exemplifies a multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) approach, multi-objective optimization on the basis of ratio analysis (MOORA) to optimize major process parameters for several contradictory responses during WEDM of inconel 718. The selected WEDM responses are cutting rate (CR), arithmetic mean roughness (Ra) and machining time (MT). All of these have been examined by varying pulse-on time (TON), pulse-off time (TOFF), pulsed current (I) and servo voltage (SV). The optimal machining condition for multi-performance features has been found as TON = 120 µs., TOFF = 46 µs., I = 230 A. and SV = 20 V. Hence, current research concentrated on the utilization of MCDM method MOORA as a critical selection approach to when deal with multi criteria optimization environment.
