Variability in the Compressive Strength of Paving Blocks Using Waste Plastic
Recently, plastic is creating more serious environmental issues, not only in our country but also worldwide. The disposal of this is created a major challenge nowadays. In this scenario, the researchers have tried for the effective use of this material in an economical way. In this scenario, an attempt was made to prepare the pavement blocks which may be used for parking or on the pathways for simple laying. In this investigation, the waste plastic bags collected from daily needs were reused for making of the paving blocks. The blocks were made with plastic incorporating with fly ash, quarry dust as other wastes with natural sand. Addition to this, a comparative study was also done considering conventional cement prepared paving block. The water absorption and the compressive strength results were monitored to understand the suitability. From the experimental study, it was observed that the paver blocks prepared with plastic waste bags offered better results compared to conventional one. Moreover, a probabilistic analysis was also carried out to quantify the characteristic compressive strength at a confidence level of 95%. Finally based on the experimental and probabilistic study, it may conclude that it will definitely possibilities are there over conventional block and also offering environmental benefits in different forms usefulness.
