Sensitivity Analysis in Reliability-Based Shape Optimization
Abstract A reliability-based shape optimization problem is formulated with the total expected cost as the objective function and requirements for the element or systems reliability measures as constraints. As design variables both sizing and shape variables are used. It is shown how the sensitivities (gradients) for use in optimization algorithms can be obtained if the structural model is modelled by linear or non-linear finite element models with or without stochastic variables used in connection with the stiffness calculations. Further it is shown how a sensitivity analysis of the optimal design can be performed. Finally a simple example where the techniques are utilized is considered.
