Seismic Analysis of Reinforced Soil Retaining Walls
Abstract Reinforced soil walls are being extensively used in various infrastructure projects. In the view of increasing seismic events, efficient seismic performance of these important public infrastructure facilities must be ensured. Seismic analysis of reinforced soil walls is an active research area for the geotechnical community which aids in effective design to ascertain efficient seismic performance. The seismic performance of reinforced soil walls are being studied by different researchers in the form of physical models, analytical models and numerical models. This paper presents the brief observations obtained from shaking table tests of wrap-faced- and rigid-faced reinforced soil walls subjected to sinusoidal dynamic excitations and their numerical simulations. The effects of seismic excitations, reinforcement configurations, type of facing on displacement, acceleration amplification of model walls are discussed in this paper.
