Urbanisation and Its Challenges for Ecological Urban Development
Citiescity are characterised by a high concentration of human population, dense development and a wide range of human activities. Urbanurbandevelopmenturban development finds its spatial expression in area growth, densification, but also in the phenomenon of “shrinking”. These spatial processes are not mutually exclusive, but can take place simultaneously and are also interrelated. What impact do these processes have on the ecological structure and functioning of the citycity, and how do they relate to the three major challenges for ecologically oriented urbanurban development, ecologically orienteddevelopmenturban development - promoting a high quality of lifequality of life, urbanand environmentenvironment in the citycity, reducing the use and consumption of natural resourcesresourceby citiescity, and urban adaptation toclimate, change (adaption)climateclimate, change (adaption) change?
