Terminology and International Framework for Documentation
Terminology and the international framework for cultural heritage documentation is the theme of the second chapter. Although terminology used in 3D recording, documentation and preservation of historic buildings is very important, this study analyzes the main terms used in practice. The users should have a clear picture of each term before becoming involved in such projects. International organizations such as ICOMOS; the International Council on Monuments and Sites, ISPRS; the International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing and CIPA; CIPA—Heritage Documentation, one way or another, are working in the field of cultural heritage. The collaboration of ICOMOS and ISPRS produced CIPA. Over the last decades, various charters, conventions and principles have been adopted by several international organizations. Within this chapter, the most important of them, related to the recording and documentation of cultural heritage are discussed.
