Operating difficulties at the maikopsk hydroelectric station caused by scouring in the lower pool
Conclusions 1. When designing and operating retaining structures on rivers carrying heavy sediment loads and flowing in unstable channels, it is necessary to take into account possible consequences of the accumulation of sediment in the upper pools and possible river-bed processes in the lower pools which can lead to a deterioration in the operating conditions of the turbines and hydraulic structures. 2. Depending on the extent of expected channel deformations, measures should be taken to maintain the level in the lower pool at the prescribed elevation.
