Equivalent Lateral Forces for Design of Multistory Sliding Base Structures
In Chap. 4, the peak superstructure responses of single-story sliding base (SB) structures subjected to three-component earthquake excitation were studied, and simplified equations for estimating the peak superstructure responses were also developed. For multistory SB structures, these equations may still be used to determine the total earthquake force acting on the superstructure; however, they are not sufficient to determine the earthquake forces acting on each story of a multistory structure. For this reason, this chapter focuses on the development of equivalent lateral forces for the design of multistory SB structures.
