A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Conversion of an Existing Reinforced Concrete Building into a New Office Building
We are all open to the idea of preserving the old buildings. The renovation of the heritage structures is a topic of great importance worldwide. It results from the need to improve the structures of the existing heritage in accordance with the requirements of the new conditions for sustainable development and preserve it for future generations. Rehabilitation and strengthening of cultural and historic heritage buildings play an important role in sustainability policies. The applied rehabilitation and strengthening should be determined respecting the results to the integrity and authenticity of the cultural and historic heritage buildings. The construction sector is increasingly in need of strengthening and restoring existing buildings that have exceeded their service life but are still in good condition or have historical significance for the country. The understanding of the performance of the structure and the estimation of the actual conditions is basic for the decision making for the final solutions for rehabilitation and strengthening.
The research in the paper aims to offer option for the seismic assessment and strengthening of the structure of a building for gravity loading and seismic actions. Extending the service life and preserving the architectural interior and the exterior of the building have been the guiding principles in the research and the proposed solutions for rehabilitation and strengthening.
