Abstract Up to this point, the reliability of a system has been determined by use of simple probability concepts and logical arguments. However, for more complex systems, especially those that are maintained, the more powerful techniques of stochastic process theory will be necessary in order to obtain effective solutions. Before discussing stochastic processes though, it may be useful to review multivariable probability distributions.
