Investigation on Effective Charging Time of Electro-Osmotic Consolidation for Marine Clayey Soils
This paper presented an investigation on the effective charging time of electro-osmotic consolidation (EC) for marine clayey soils. According to the previous experimental data, the theoretical analysis and the relevant formulae are deduced for the soil parameters, including water discharge, water discharge rate, normalized current, effective charging time, and so forth. Based on the different experiments, the water discharge-time curves can be approximated as a polynomial curve. The water discharge rate is defined as the water discharge in a unit time, it characterized the drainage velocity during the electro-osmosis process. The normalized current I0(t) which is defined as the ratio of the current at a certain time to the initial current is employed to analyze the termination time and current. The analysis results provide the reasonable theories for the related researches and also demonstrate the feasibility of EC for the clayey soils.
