Wind Interference Effect on Y-Plan Shaped Tall Buildings
Large lateral loads occur on tall asymmetric buildings located in the regions where wind velocity is high. The present document has presented a detailed wind analysis on a Y-Plan building with two interfering buildings of square plan shaped put in a sideways manner. The length and breadth of each wing of the Y-Plan building are H/5 and H/10 respectively where building height is taken as H. The two interfering buildings of square plan shaped has side equal to H/5. Moreover, the angles of attack of wind are considered from 0° to 60° at a step size of 15°. Results reveal that the wind flow profile is the same for the windward side and the leeward side but different for faces B and I i.e., face facing the interference effect due to blockage of wind by interfering buildings. Positive pressure has been observed for faces A, B, C, H & I while negative pressure has been observed for faces D, E, F & G due to suction and vortex shedding. For 0° wind angle the maximum coefficient of pressure has for face A(0.91) while the maximum negative coefficient of pressure has for face G(−0.46). Also, when the angle of wind changes, faces experience more negative pressure coefficient due to generation of more wake regions and the formation of suction. Y-Plan building in interference condition has slightly less force coefficient value(0.98) as compared to isolated condition(1.0037) for 0° angle of attack of wind.
