A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Abstract In the present Chapter we introduce the analysis of viscoelastic media using the finite elements technique. It is assumed that the reader has some previous acquaintance with finite elements (otherwise, he is advised to see the fundamentals in some of the books referred to in Section 5). Thus, it is only for the sake of completness and to establish a common language that we present a very short and simple introduction to finite elements theory in Section 1. In Section 2 we review the viscoelastic constitutive equations setting them into a form adequate for numerical analysis. In Section 3 we see how the finite element technique is applied to viscoelastic problems. Finally, in Section 4 we introduce a program for the analysis of viscoelastic trusses.
