Numerical Evaluation of Composite Slabs
Composite slabs with steel decking are widely gaining popularity due to its structural and economic advantages over ordinary slabs. In composite slabs the concrete takes compressive stresses and the metal deck acts as a permanent reinforcement and takes the tensile stresses. Composite slabs provide better distribution of loads acting on floors which in turn proves to be more seismic resistant. Composite slabs can be built to cover large unsupported areas. Parametric study is conducted to study the effect of some parameters in the load-carrying capacity of the slab. The parameters varied in the study are shear span of the modelled slab, number of shear studs used and arrangement of stiffeners. Non-linear finite element analysis is carried out to study its behaviour under flexure. The associated results are presented. Software used for the study is ANSYS Workbench.
