“High”-pressure air system for converting units to a synchronous capacitor regime
Conclusions 1. The experiment of operating the pneumatic systems intended for converting units to a SC regime shows that the effectiveness of using “high”-pressure air (more than 20 kgf/cm2) in them is related to a number of technical problems, the main one of which consists in bringing the duct system delivering air to the turbine into line with the pressure being used. 2. Since the trend toward an increase of air pressure in these systems at present is not associated with special studies of duct systems, but is being accomplished on the basis of systems traditional for “low” pressure, when designing it is necessary to take into account that the optimal parameters of the process of converting the unit to a SC regime are obtained at a working air pressure of about 25 kgf/cm2. 3. In the case of using a “high”-pressure air system it is necessary to take into account the possibility of the occurrence of “air-water hammer” when delivering air to the closed chamber of the turbine (unloading chamber, ring header, etc.), which can lead to its damage (surge effect on the turbine bearing, thrust bearing, turbine cover, etc.).
