Seismic Safety of Rockfill Dams
Abstract A probabilistic version of the Simplified Bishop Method is developed and used to calculate seismic fragility curves of dams that fail due to excessive permanent deformation. Many sources of uncertainty are considered: the dynamic amplification of peak acceleration, the strength parameters on the slip surface, the elevation of the phreatic line and the distribution of pore pressure, the permanent deformation of each wedge at the end of the motion, and various errors from simplifying mechanical assumptions.
