Barriers to the Prediction of Service Life of Polymeric Materials
Abstract The principal barriers to the prediction of service life of polymeric materials used for buildings can be classified according to three categories: General barriers intrinsically associated with the problem of natural weathering; Barriers associated with polymeric materials themselves; and Barriers associated with the methodology selected for evaluation of the service life. This paper gives a short description of these barriers through some examples, according to a general framework proposed for service life prediction of a material or a product.
