Application of Vertical Drains to Increase the Capacity of Disposal Pond for Dredged Marine Clay
It is important to maintain and to regularly improve the function of navigation channel and anchorage area for the ship traffic. In Japan, it is becoming difficult to construct new disposal ponds for dredged soils, therefore the long use of existing disposal pond has become an urgent technical issue to be solved. In this paper, available techniques to increase in capacity of existing disposal pond and the capacity increase project carried out at Shinmoji-Oki disposal pond are introduced. Specially, the detailed design of the vertical drain for clay ground as the volume reduction method and the modification of prediction using monitoring and ground survey results are described.
