Construction of Asphalt Pavement for Orthotropic Steel Deck Bridge
The article describes the methodology of calculating and designing of the pavement on the hoist superstructure with orthotropic steel deck of the roadway. This work is a part of the planned overhaul of unique road bridge across the Severnaya Dvina River in Arkhangelsk. In accordance with current standards, the thickness of the new asphalt pavement must be increased by 15% compared to the existing one. This fact will lead to unacceptable loads on the lifting mechanisms, and it`s reconstruction entails a long-term close of navigation. Calculations of the pavement stress-strain state for endurance under the moving load influence are performed, and the obtained results confirmed the possibility of saving the existing pavement thickness on the hoist superstructure. To improve the physical and mechanical properties of pavement and to keep the existing pavement thickness, it has been proposed and substantiated by the results of rheological studies to use the composite rubber-polymer bitumen binder.
