Responses of 2DOF Sliding Base Systems Under Harmonic Ground Motions
Although actual structures would not be subjected to harmonic ground motions, theoretical solutions obtained under harmonic ground motions can often provide useful information for understanding the mechanism of the structures considered. For this reason, this chapter focuses on the responses of 2-degree-of-freedom (2DOF) sliding base (SB) systems subjected to harmonic ground motions. The main contents of the present chapter include the typical response histories of a 2DOF SB system subjected to harmonic ground motions, the influence of the critical parameters on the maximum structural responses, and the derivation and interpretation of the available theoretical solutions.
