Investigation of unstable motion in the buffer reservoir of hydroelectric-pumped storage station
Conclusions 1. When investigating unstable flow in open water courses in models with rectified channels, compensation of hydraulic losses occuring at bends in the channel has to be carried out by installing sources of local losses at those positions. These sources also provide the necessary reflection effect of intercepted waves, with the corresponding natural conditions of hydraulic losses. 2. The investigations show that the hydraulic construction of model channels with distorted scales, along with the familiar methods, such as increased roughness and increased discharges, can also be carried out by installing sources of local losses in the channel. There must be a fairly large number of such sources, but there are no precise data regarding the minimum necessary number. 3. The investigations on a pumped storage station buffer reservoir model illustrate the level regimes in the reservoir, providing minimum permissible dead-water levels in the reservoir, to allow normal pumped storage station operating conditions, in addition to means for reducing the levels and establishing the energy gain thus obtained.
