Abstract We have considered the concepts of strategic planning and the relationship between strategic planning and enterprise architectures. Furthermore, we have positioned the various types of architectures that an organization may use to support detailed IT planning. Our focus in this book is on the enterprise technical architecture. The technical architecture describes the technical structure and components of the organization’s IT environment. It is concerned with components such as applications at a macro level and is responsible for driving the strategic direction (both business and IT) into the technology environment.
