The catalytic action of triethylamine in the reaction of β-hydroxyethyl mercaptan with oxiranes
Abstract The formation of an interionically hydrogen-bonded complex during the reaction of triethylamine with β-hydroxyethyl mercaptan, the dissociation of the complex into ions, and the involvement of the mercaptide ion in epoxide ring opening are studied.
