Hydraulic removal of sediment from the Chir-Yurtsk hydrostation reservoir
Conclusions 1. The grouping employed in the Chir-Yurtsk hydropower scheme, with its deeply submerged pressure outlet centrally located with respect to the reservoir, is very fortunate and enables the reservoir to be cleared of sediment deposits by sluicing. 2. The successful experimental sluicing of the reservoir shows that the hydraulic scouring of sediment deposits is technically possible and economically expedient; the cost of removing soil amounts to 0.5 to 1.5 kopecks/m3. 3. The hydraulic clearing of reservoirs should be carried out, having due regard for the interests of all branches of the national economy (power, agriculture, water supply, fish industry, etc.), in order to achieve the maximum national economy and its correct evaluation.
