Studies on Biomineralized Ternary Blended Cementitious Composites Incorporating GGBS and Sugarcane Bagasse Ash
The biomineralization technique utilizes microorganisms for enhancing the engineering and durability features of mortar or concrete specimens. In the present study, bacillus subtillis was incorporated in synthesizing ternary composites comprising 70% cement, 20% Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag (GGBS) and 10% Sugarcane Bagasse Ash (SBA). The optimization of microbial content was experimentally performed by trial-and-error method by varying its concentration. The mechanical properties such as compressive and flexural strength was studied. The durability properties in terms of water absorption were evaluated. The Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) was used for studying the microstructure of the matrix. The test results were compared with that of conventional mix.
