Quantitative Fire Risk Assessment and Management
Abstract Fire hazards exist in natural and industrial environments and in people’s homes. Fire is one of the most significant accident types that result in catastrophe in terms of personnel, assets, and the environment. This chapter presents a procedure for the quantitative assessment and management of fire risks in structures and infrastructures, with a focus on industrial applications associated with hydrocarbons. An illustrative example of fire risk assessment for offshore installations is presented. This quantitative procedure contrasts the prescriptive procedures associated with the rules and qualitative approaches of risk assessment and management.
