Evaluating the Building Resilience: Energy Flexibility Index
The main aim of this chapter is to investigate the building energy simulations from a wider perspective to take into account several future uncertainty sources. For example, climate change, technological advancements, variations of the urban context and building use can play a pivotal role—for both responsive and static technologies—in the future energy consumption of our buildings, overturning their current energy behaviour. Starting from a validated study, this chapter reports an innovative metric that summarises—in a single index called Energy Flexibility Index—the behaviour of a specific technology in a series of possible future scenarios.
