A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
On the Drawings and Travel Notebooks of Guillermo Vázquez Consuegra

This paper consists of an analytical and critical evaluation of the graphic contribution made by the Sevillian architect Guillermo Vázquez Consuegra. To achieve this evaluation, we will use materials that have yet to be studied or published, that is, his drawings and travel notebooks.
Moving beyond the intellectual stagnation that would be generated from studying his works independently, or from drawings referring to purely professional issues, we aim to demonstrate the substantial values of his thought processes, in essence, through the graphic records accumulated in his notebooks and travel logs for over nearly forty years.
We will examine the drawings from the architect’s travels as if they were a palimpsest on which the most significant human experiences, which have undoubtedly shaped Vázquez Consuegra’s design identity, have been recorded.
The sketches, which were never intended to be shown, reveal the creative freedom of a vibrant author whose understanding of reality permeates into his works.
