Retrofitting of Corrosion-Damaged Reinforced Concrete Columns with BFRPs
Reinforcement corrosion is one of the main reasons for the deterioration of the RC structure. In this chapter, results showed that: (1) the reinforcement corrosion affected the seismic performance of RC columns; (2) the load-bearing capacity, cumulative energy dissipation, and ductility of columns decreased with the increase of corrosion rate; (3) the seismic performance of corroded RC columns improved by retrofitting with BFRP sheets; (4) the use of BFRP sheets to confine the concrete in the corroded RC columns improved the bond behavior between reinforcing bars and concrete; (5) and the stiffness, displacement ductility ratios, and cumulative energy dissipation of corroded RC columns retrofitted with BFRP sheets were compared with those of corroded RC columns without retrofitting.
