Behavior of Partially Composite Beams with Demountable Bolted Shear Connectors
The efficiency and sustainability of construction could be improved by using composite structures made of bolted shear studs and precast concrete slabs. This research suggests using fully threaded high-strength bolts as shear connectors. The precast slab is fabricated with pockets at the locations of the shear connectors. After assembly, the pockets are filled with non-shrinking cement grout. The experimental program includes six composite beam specimens that consist of grouped and uniformly distributed bolted shear connectors. Finite element models are developed using the ABAQUS/Explicit solver, and these models match experimental findings quite well. A parametric study is conducted to study the effects of bolt diameter, bolt-hole size, type of bolt material, and grout strength on the composite beam performance. The plastic flexural capacity of composite beams with partial shear connection can be predicted more accurately using the proposed plastic models.
