Strain-Rate and Temperature Dependency for Preconsolidation Pressure of Soft Clay
Abstract Both of strain-rate and temperature have significant effects on the one-dimensional (1D) compression behavior of soils. This paper focuses on the time and temperature dependent behavior of the preconsolidation pressure, which is investigated in double logarithm plane. Based on the linear correlation, a strain-rate related parameter and a temperature related parameter are proposed to describe the rate-dependency and temperature dependency, respectively. Finally, a constitutive equation is introduced that expressesing the evolution of the preconsolidation pressure with respect to strain rate and temperature. The evolution of the preconsolidation pressure is the basis of any general elasto-thermo-plastic framework to allow the coupling of the thermoplastic deformation with the modification of the state limit.
