Phenomenology of Superconductivity and Magnetic Order in Heavy Fermi Liquids and Narrow-Band Metals
Summary Trends for the occurrence of superconductivity and magnetic order in narrow-band metals are reviewed. Magnetic interactions and strongly non-adiabatic coupling between electrons and the lattice are discussed as important limitations on the superconducting transition temperature Tc. The quantitative influence of the temperature and magnetic field dependences of normal state parameters on the upper critical field of heavy fermion and high-Tc superconductors, including the novel very-high-Tc copper oxides, are considered. Recent evidence is reviewed for the existence of an unexpectedly low energy scale To that acts as a “hyperstrong” cutoff for the Tc of heavy fermion, A15 and other narrow-band superconductors.
