The Intrinsic Dimension in Álvaro Siza’s Carlos Ramos Pavilion
This paper attempts to show the importance of the geometric exercise in architectural composition: working not only for a justified relationship between the parts of a building per se in the construction of a cohesive organism, but also for the integration of the architectural artifice in place, not forgetting its fundamental relationship with the human observer. By analyzing the Carlos Ramos Pavilion by the architect Álvaro Siza, we can perceive how simple and ancestral geometrical mechanisms are worked subliminally in their direct and metamorphosed form, structuring an intrinsic skeleton equipped with connective abilities. The result reveals a deep commitment to a sense of relationship and integration that goes beyond the design level, aiming for a truly integral solution.
