A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Abstract Architects cannot completely agree with the above quote (of Mark Twain) since architects can do a little about the immediate weather. ‘Shelter’ and, as discussed in the introduction chapter, civilization has had quite an impact on the overall climate change. The potential strategy against climate change is to design buildings according to the climate where the building is located. Geographically, the climatic conditions are diverse and hence the designer is required to describe and interpret climate in ways that are relevant to building design. This chapter aims to discuss classification of climate, elements of climate, thermal comfort and solar geometry from the building design point of view.
