Urban Heritage Tourism in Fort Kochi; Revival in Post-pandemic
Urban heritage offers tourism opportunities as well as it can add authentic value to standardized experiences. Along with prevalent world heritage sites, there are small jewels that can bid originality and beauty. Fort Kochi, Kerala situated along the coast of Indian Ocean, 6 km south of Cochin, India, originated during the floods of twelfth century and slowly evolved to a Port town of Portuguese, Dutch, and English colony sequentially which parades vivid prospects for urban heritage tourism. COVID-19 pandemic has re-raised questions about healthy and sustainable urban heritage environments. For studying the promotion of urban heritage tourism in Fort Kochi in post-pandemic, topological records are structured using historical literature, GIS mapping, GPS plotting, and direct interviews. The data evolved out of these studies including perception study of the locals and tourists has helped in formulating a SWOT analysis.
