Transportation Demand Management and HOV Projects
Abstract As described in Chapter 1, Transportation Demand Management (TDM) emphasizes the reduction of demand to require fewer roadway facilities at peak hours. Transportation Systems Management (TSM) focuses on the implementation of relatively low cost, quickly established actions to obtain higher efficiency in moving people as opposed to vehicles. Some overlap in the meaning of these terms makes it advisable to specify the context when using them. The term TSM has been used previously to describe the subject of this chapter, and TDM is applied in most current programs.
