Investigating Opportunities of Adopting Sharing Economy in City Logistics in Hanoi, Vietnam
The sharing economy is becoming increasingly important to the operation of modern cities. By reducing the number of delivery trucks and utilizing greener vehicles, some sharing economy-based solutions can help to promote sustainable city logistics. The potential of the sharing economy for goods deliveries in Hanoi, Vietnam is assessed in this research with a focus on eight truck-sharing and crowd-shipping companies as Ahamove, Giaohangtietkiem, GHN, Kien Vang, EcoTrans, GogoX, sShip, and VTGo. The authors look at two sharing platform-based strategies for light trucks, namely, crowd-shipping and truck-sharing, as well as how Vietnamese customers generally see sharing platforms and their motivation to use them. The findings indicate that Vietnam’s truck-sharing sector is still in its early stages. The growth of sharing services predestined for city logistics has been slower than that of passenger transport services. The respondents are intense to adopt business concepts based on the sharing economy. Thanks to the technology that makes the access-based economy efficient, truck-sharing is becoming more and more popular. The potential for financial savings is the main justification for using sharing services, according to 62% of the respondents. Positive reviews and referrals from friends and family members are the biggest motivators for potential users (41%). Transport authorities and logistics managers may learn from the research how potential consumers view sharing economy-based services, and it can also offer advice on how to improve brand recognition and tailor services to match customer needs.
