Small Angle Scattering Experiments of Neutrons for the Polymer Blend PVME/d-PS
Abstract This paper is a study by neutron small angle scattering of the polymer blend* polyvenylmethy1ether and deuterated polystyrene. The blend is a compatible system with a miscibility gap at high temperature, and a lower critical solution temperature (LCST). The aim of the Investigations was primarily a study of the time dependent structure factor S(Q,t) for neutron small angle scattering in the unstable region. This was achieved by means of a double crystal diffractometer (DKD). Its resolution of the scattering vector Q is of the order of 5 • 10-5Å-1 The dynamics of precipitates — the early states and the regime of coarsening — are easily accessible because the growth rates are small and can be easily resolved. Furthermore, the early stages can be treated by theory in the meanfield approximation1.
