Simplified Plane Strain Consolidation Modelling of Stone Column
Like sand drain, stone column can accelerate the dissipation of pore water and consolidate the soft clay. In this paper, 2D plane strain consolidation of stone column reinforced ground has been discussed considering equal strain, free draining of stone column and stress concentration phenomenon of stone column due to higher modulus of elasticity compared to soft soil. The analysis has been conducted by adjusting the geometry and permeability of axisymmetric model to plane strain model. This method produces satisfactory results to determine pore water pressure dissipation of stone column reinforced ground.
