Live Load Demand on New Brunswick Highway Bridges
This paper assesses the live load spectra imposed upon bridges in the Province of New Brunswick and compares it against the Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code (CHBDC) CL-625-ONT live load model, which is currently used by the New Brunswick Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (NBDTI). The live load is quantified using an extensive Weigh-In-Motion (WIM) database obtained from five sites in the province representative of normal traffic, along with a truck database containing permit applications that were approved by NBDTI between 2014 and 2018 representing the overweight vehicles that are allowed to operate under special permits. Four bridge configurations were considered in this study based on the provincial bridge inventory with spans ranging from 2 to 80 m. Finally, a comparison between the bridge load responses due to the truck database and the CL-625-ONT live load model is provided.
