Abstract The distribution character and the composition of hydrocarbons in Azerbaijani oils of different types were studied. Concentrates of aromatic hydrocarbons were isolated from the 50° fractions of crude oils and oil residues boiling above 450°C. The structural-group composition of the isolated aromatic hydrocarbons was studied by spectral methods (mass spectrometry and 1H NMR spectroscopy).
