A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
A review of the social transformations that were outlined in Chap. 1 begs the question: how should the required changes be ushered in? how should communities be planned anew or retooled? Sustainability, as a philosophy and organizing principle, has been put forward as an answer to these questions. This chapter discusses sustainability in the context of urban design and offers key principles to evaluate and guide the process of making places sustainable.
