Polaron Effects in High-T c Oxide Superconductors
Abstract We argue that measurements of the specific heat, static susceptibility, dc and ac conductivity, and thermopower are consistent with a polaron model for normal-state conduction in the high-T c superconductors La2-xSrxCuO4-y and YBa2Cu3O7-y. Strong electron-phonon coupling is also suggested by measurements of elastic constants and thermal Debye-Waller factors. We investigate a model for polaron formation in these systems and a possible mechanism for polaron superconductivity.
