A Shaft Finite Element for Analysis of Viscoelastic Tapered and Hollow Tapered Rotors
Abstract The objective of the present work is to formulate a finite element model for viscoelastic tapered rotor using tapered rotor elements. Maxwell–Wiechert model with one elastic spring and three Maxwell branches has been taken to model the linear viscoelastic property. A comparative numerical study for assessing rotor stability and frequency response has been performed using both tapered, hollow tapered rotor element and stepped cylindrical rotor element. It has been found that the former produces equally accurate results but with fewer elements.
