3D Geological Modelling: A Case Study for Singapore
Abstract A project to manage borehole data and establish 3D geo-models including geological models and geotechnical models in Singapore using available borehole data and other geological/geotechnical data has been carried out. This paper presents part of the progress of this project. The software, methods and procedures adopted for modelling a subzone of Singapore are presented. The modelling procedure consisted of geological data preparation, cross-section creation, fence diagram and 3D model construction. Cross-sections created using SubsurfaceViewer were used as the basis for the 3D geological modelling. The established 3D geological model has shown that the geological formation layers in Singapore are complicated. For this reason, it is difficult for a software to generate automatically the geological layers or sequences using purely the borehole data. When there are large borehole gaps, the accuracy of the 3D geological model in the related area, especially the layer boundaries, will need to be verified using other geological information or additional borehole data.
