Fire Protection Systems
Abstract Fire services installations and equipment, also called fire protection systems, mean any installations or equipment manufactured, used or designed to be used for the purpose of extinguishing, attacking, preventing, limiting or giving warning of fire. They may be fixed or portable, and either automatic or manual in operation. In this chapter, we shall look at some common fire services installations, such as smoke and fire detection devices, sprinklers, hose reel and hydrants, foam systems and the microprocessor based fire alarm systems.
