Criteria of safe operational deformations of earth dams
Conclusions 1. A method is proposed for evaluating the operational state of earth dams on the basis of analyzing the results of on-site measurements of deformations according to nominal criteria (1) and (2) and maximum allowable criteria (6) and (7). Criterion (1) reflects the requirements concerning a diminishing character of deformations in normally operated earth structures. Criterion (2) serves for estimating the errors of the measurements and is a model of the development of deformations with time. 2. Equation (10) makes it possible to well-foundedly assign the periodicity of instrumental observations of deformations of earth structures as a function of the intensity of deformations and measurement error. In view of the impossibility of a scientific substantiation of the time of development of a failure from the appearance of its first signs until failure, in the period of time between instrumental observations it is necessary to perform systematic visual inspections to detect signs of failure. 3. The proposed method of evaluating the operational state of earth dams on the basis of analyzing the results of deformation measurements makes it possible to estimate the accuracy of the performed measurements and to reveal anomalies in the change in the character of deformations with time, which can be a consequence of the development of failure processes or the result of a change in the operating conditions. A program for processing data and their analysis was compiled by the proposed method in FORTRAN “Dubna” for the BÉSM-6 computer and introduced.
