Role of Edge Vortices in Impeller Failure of Francis Hydraulic Turbines
An example of fatigue failure of a Francis turbine under the action of edge vortices descending from the discharge edges of the blades is given. Recommendations are outlined for exposure and elimination of the source of high-frequency loads in the turbine.
