Sustainable Water Sources in Ende Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province, Indonesia
Water scarcity remains a pertinent concern in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) province, Indonesia. Ende, a regency in NTT Province, continues to experience the issue of water scarcity owing to insufficient water supply in numerous areas. The primary concern for local water utilities revolves around ensuring the sustainability of water resources. This circumstance challenges local governments in meeting the household water requirements. This study delves into the sustainability of water from various sources beyond the local water utility (PDAM) purview in Ende, NTT to fulfill the demand. The research methodology employs a quantitative and qualitative descriptive approach, encompassing 209 respondents who utilize water from wells, rivers, tanks, and pipelines rather than relying on the local water utilities. Interviews were conducted between August and November 2023. The results reveal that numerous households continue to rely on alternative water sources beyond the primary ones to meet their daily water requirements. Among the 209 respondents surveyed, 155 were disinterested to be PDAM customers. Conversely, some respondents expressed willingness to become PDAM customers due to challenges in accessing water. This research holds significance for the local government of Ende Regency in devising strategic measures for managing the water supply system, particularly in areas lacking access to the local water utility by Perumda Tirta Kelimutu.
