Village Spatial Pattern of Kiadan Traditional Village in Badung Regency
The traditional village of Kiadan in Badung Regency, Bali Province, Indonesia, has unique customs, architecture, and natural conditions. The Kiadan Village has a linear spatial pattern and is tied to Tri Hita Karana Concept, a harmonious relationship between humans and God, others, and their natural environment. The traditional housing in the Kiadan consists of sanggah, sakaroras, paon, and central plaza (natah). Along with technological developments, there have been changes in the housing spatial pattern that affects the existence of the Kiadan Village as a tourist destination. This study aims to explore the uniqueness of the Kiadan Village, especially in the village spatial pattern and the changes that occur, the extent to which the arrangement of living patterns has changed, which is related to the preservation of traditional values. This research method was conducted in a descriptive qualitative through direct observation to investigate the existence of the traditional house. The interview with the village’s leader is used to gain valid information regarding the history, socio-cultural, and architecture of the house. Secondary data was gathered through other sources such as the Internet, agencies, and previous research. The timeline study is taken from 2003 to 2022 based on previous research results as a comparison. The result of the study shows that traditional house (sakaroras) is few extant although most of them have change into modern building form due to development and globalization. However, the unique values of spatial settlement patterns are still well maintained by the people. This research contributes to the preservation of village spatial patterns in traditional settlements and as a source of information on the existence of Apanaga villages as part of the heritage and cultural landscape.
